ASC BUSINESS CLUB SEMINAR

"CORPORATE PROCESS AND UNDERSTANDING"

Association of Security Consultants (ASC) members and guests attended one of the ASC's quarterly Business Club Seminars entitled "Corporate Process and Understanding" on 22 April in St. James's, London.

Roy Sutherland, ASC Chairman, welcomed all to the event and made a special presentation of a plaque to John Benton, Life President of the ASC. The gift was a brass trademark of John Tamm Ltd., a company no longer in existence but the first real safe maker in this country, according to John, who was once a Director of the company.

Roy was also delighted to present certificates to new members Roger Bird of SGW Security Consultancy (Full Member), Barry Dickman of Broughton Controls (Affiliate Member) and Jamie Shelford of Lenel Systems International (Affiliate Member).
Bird,

The formal side of the day was started by John Jacovou of Cisco Systems Limited with a presentation entitled "An Operational Solution to Security Technology". John covered risk and assessments that are everyday concerns, technology, operations, centralised operational management and monitoring.

Aspects of the role of intercom were provided by Barry Westgate of Zenitel UK, including the reasons to have an intercom system, the latest systems available and what to look for to obtain a cost effective system. He gave information about a talking CCTV and audio challenge faced by a utility company, together with details of concerns commonly addressed by IT departments (get off my LAN!) and provided solutions.

Jamie Shelford of Lenel Systems International gave a detailed presentation on "Security Design Tools, "The Consultant Programme"". Jamie explained the virtues of working with consultants and how the company leads the industry in providing tools and services for consultants to utilise, with a different approach to maintaining and creating a knowledge base.
.
Roy Sutherland concluded the proceedings by thanking Lenel Systems International for sponsoring the event and all those who had provided the interesting presentations.

Roy reminded all that the next Business Club Seminar will be held on Thursday, 16 July 2009. He also mentioned that CONSEC, the ASC's international conference and exhibition, will be held on Thursday, 5 November 2009, at the RAF Museum at Hendon.

The formal proceedings concluded with an excellent buffet luncheon and wine, which gave all those who attended the opportunity to network on an informal basis.

The ASC organises a number of prominent events during the year, which are of importance to both ASC members and others who are interested in security issues and technical innovations.
