ASC WINNERS OF THE ANNUAL IMBERT PRIZE AWARDS
Winners of the Imbert Prize Awards were announced on Thursday, 21 June 2007, at the Association of Security Consultants (ASC) annual lunch that was held at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London.
Colin Braziel, Chairman of the ASC, reminded the audience that this is the third year of the Imbert Prize, which is named after one of the ASC's esteemed Patrons, Lord Peter Imbert, a former Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
The Council of the ASC encourages the development of ideas for the advancement of risk and security management in the United Kingdom through the award of this annual prize.
Although Lord Imbert was unable to attend the lunch, Colin Braziel confirmed that he takes an active part in the award process and reads all the dissertations submitted before meeting with the adjudication panel to decide on the winner of the University Dissertation Award. The judges had an extremely difficult choice to make from the excellent submissions received from Cranfield University (Anthony McGee), Leicester University (David Cresswell), Loughborough University (Roy Burnett) and Portsmouth University (Robert Jenkins). The award went to David Cresswell from Leicester University for his paper on "A Study into the Application of Formal Risk Analysis Methodologies to Assess the Risks to Business Posed by Terrorism". As well as a plaque, a cheque for £1,000 was also awarded.
Maurice Parsons was both honoured and delighted to have been nominated by his fellow members of the ASC and to win the award for the ASC member who has made the most significant contribution to independent security consultancy in the preceding year.
Peter French won the Association's Security Industry award for the person making the most notable contribution to the security industry in the previous year.
Colin Braziel also presented a Certificate of Membership to new ASC member, Jerry Proffitt.
The guest speaker at the lunch, Professor Martin Gill (Professor of Criminology at the University of Leicester and Director of Perpetuity Research and Consultancy International) gave an interesting insight into the Security Research Initiative comprising a three-year programme of study focussing on research to improve understanding of the security sector. He said that security professionals around the world were interviewed to understand whether they felt they added value and to better understand ways in which security can add value. Professor Gill said that the initiative represents a real chance to influence the future direction of the security sector and to address the challenges it faces to be recognised as a business enhancing activity.
Amongst the 100 members and guests attending were, Patrick Somerville (Chairman of IPSA and JSIC), Superintendent Brett Lovegrove (City of London Police) Derek Webster (current President of ASIS UK Chapter), Ivar Hellberg (Executive Director, The Resilience Centre, Cranfield University) and Andrew White (NSI Chief Executive).
