Nominations for the ASC's 2011 Imbert Prize

The Association of Security Consultants (ASC) encourages the development of ideas for the advancement of risk and security management in the UK through the award of an annual prize. The ‘Imbert Prize’ is named after one of the esteemed patrons of the ASC, Lord Imbert of New Romney CVO QPM JP, former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police and Lord Lieutenant of Greater London
The prize has three separate elements and the ASC has pleasure in announcing the nominations for 2011.
1. An award of £1,000 for a selected dissertation submitted by an academic institution. Cranfield, Leicester, Loughborough and Portsmouth Universities are invited to submit a dissertation on behalf of one of their students, which must be relevant to consultancy in security. The dissertation is submitted to an award panel appointed by the ASC. The award panel is independent of any of the institutions submitting dissertations and is made up of members appointed by the Chairman of the ASC, the ASC Board, and such other members required for purpose of adjudication.
The nominations for 2011 for this category are:
Cranfield University. Sponsor, Dr Laura Cleary, Head of the Security Studies Institute. A dissertation by Major Gina Amos UK Prisons: "A Breeding Ground for Terrorism?".
Leicester University. Sponsor, Adrian Beck, Senior Lecturer in Crime & Policing. A dissertation by Stephen Peck: "Policing the New Extremism: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Preventative Strategies in the Management of Counter-Terrorism in the UK".
Loughborough University. Sponsor, Danie Adendorff, Director of Security Programmes. A dissertation by Angus D.I. Darroch-Warren: "Licensing the Investigators: How and to What Extent Will Proposed Competency Criteria for the Private Investigation Sector Lead to Greater Professionalism Within the Security Industry?".
Portsmouth University. Sponsor, Azeem Aleem, Principal Lecturer in Internet Security. A dissertation by Paul Rollinson Channel: "Reducing the Risk of Radicalisation. A Case Study of Greater Manchester Police".
2. The person making the most notable contribution in the security industry in the preceding year. The Security Industry Associations are invited to submit a nomination, adjudicated by the ASC Award Panel.
The proposed nominees for 2011 include:
ASIS International UK Chapter Sponsor, Mike Alexander BEM MSc, Chairman of ASIS. Nominee, James Willison, ASIS Convergence Lead.
British Security Industry Association (BSIA) Sponsor, James Kelly, Chief Executive of the BSIA. Nominee, Mike Bluestone MA FsyI, Director of Security Consulting for Corps Security International.
Professional Security Association (IPSA). Sponsor, Justin Bentley, Chief Executive Officer of IPSA. Nominee, Bill Butler - CEO of the Security Industry Authority.
Security Institute (SyI). Sponsor, Mike Bluestone, Chairman of SyI. Nominee, Ken Livingstone MSc FsyI - Perpetuity Training.
3. The ASC member that has made the most significant contribution to independent security consultancy in the preceding year nominated by the members of the ASC, as adjudged by the ASC Award Panel.
The winners of each category will be announced at the ASC Annual Awards Luncheon to be held at the Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London, on 23rd June 2011.
