ASC Annual Awards 2011 Winners

25/07/11

Members and guests of the Association of Security Consultants (ASC) recently attended the June 2011 Annual Awards Luncheon which was held at the prestigious Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly, London,

The ASC encourages the development of ideas for the advancement of risk and security management in the UK through an annual award.  The 'Imbert Prize' is named after Lord Imbert of New Romney CVO QPM JP, former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Lord Lieutenant of Greater London, and a long standing Patron of the ASC.

There was time for an informal chat and get together in the bar prior to being called in for luncheon and a short introduction to the proceedings by ASC Chairman, Roy Sutherland.  Unfortunately, Lord and Lady Imbert were unable to attend on this occasion but Lord MacKenzie, another stalwart supporter and ASC Patron, and Lady MacKenzie joined the party.

After an excellent lunch Sir Hugh Orde, President of the Association of Chief Police Officers, entertained ASC members and guests with a very interesting and informative address on current policing issues and the future.   Following the well received address Roy Sutherland presented Sir Hugh's partner, Dee, with a bouquet of flowers and some 'Cornish Rattler' Cider which she apparently enjoys.  Sir Hugh was given an ASC tie.

It then fell to the double act of Roy Sutherland and ASC Secretary, Laurie Doust, to try and fill Lord Imbert's shoes.  Lord Imbert had prepared a speech for Roy to use and Lord MacKenzie presented the awards as listed below.

The Imbert prize has three separate elements:

The Chairman explained that the panel had decided to make a special award this year to Mike Bluestone for his personal untiring and unselfish commitment as Chairman of the Security Institute in its involvement with regards to the Register of Chartered Security Professionals.

Following this Roy spoke about Laurie Doust's retirement as Secretary and thanked Laurie for his unstinting work and the superb role that he has undertaken over the years.   The continued success of the ASC has been largely due to Laurie's contribution as Secretary.   Laurie was presented with an inscribed cut glass bottle cooler for his outstanding efforts.

The whole occasion was relaxed and enjoyable, being an opportunity to meet with old friends and acquaintances and make new ones.  Roy Sutherland concluded the formalities by thanking all those who attended with a reminder that CONSEC, the annual international showcase of the ASC, will be held on Thursday 3 November 2011, at the Royal Air Force Museum, Hendon.
